About UK Infrastructure Bank:
We are the new, government-owned policy bank - launched in June 2021 - providing £22bn of infrastructure finance and partnering with the private sector and local government to finance a green industrial revolution and drive growth across the country.
We are now recruiting for a pivotal and exciting role within the bank. We are seeking a Senior Financial Modeller (Director Level). This role requires an individual with experience across equity, debt and guarantees, to build models for both pre and post-investment decision making.
This opportunity requires a true expert in their field and one that has an absolute passion to create and build a "best in class" financial modelling function for the Bank. It also requires someone that has exposure to energy, infrastructure, transport, hydrogen or similar fields & projects.
The successful candidate for this post will be someone that really enjoys and is comfortable in the deep-dive required on the numbers - but one that also has the awareness for the more abstract elements of the decision making processes of creating accurate models.
Job purpose:
  • Manage the creation and adaptation of bespoke financial models to support investment decisions and portfolio management across the Bank’s range of products including equity, debt, and guarantee instruments.
  • Provide expert modelling support to investment and portfolio management activities across the Banking & Investment (“B&I”) and Portfolio Management (“PM”) teams.
  • Develop the modelling capabilities across the front office through design, implementation and management of training and providing mentorship and guidance in your area of expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Creation and management of high-quality financial models that are transparent, reliable, accurate and user-friendly based on best-practice principles.
  • Modification and adaptation of existing financial models to enable completion of the required financial analysis to assess investment decisions and ongoing valuation of investments
  • Design and implementation of systems and processes which help to minimise errors through creative and expert model construction and analysis with the appropriate checks and controls.
  • Positively build and maintain internal relationships by interfacing in an open, constructive and collaborative manner with B&I and PM teams in support of their investment activities.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Bank in its dealings with external parties through interaction with stakeholders on transactions and other dealings to help create opportunities and enhance UKIB’s reputation in the market. These parties may include other investors, banks, advisors and government departments.
  • A passion for training and coaching team members in building and manipulating complex financial models including through the design, management and implementation of internal training programmes.
  • Act as a role model and mentor for junior team members by encouraging a culture of knowledge sharing and learning
  • Proactively contribute to the Bank’s strategic objectives and cement the Bank’s reputation as a centre of excellence in infrastructure banking and investment
Experience Requirements:
  • High proficiency and deep knowledge of complex Excel financial modelling techniques and significant financial modelling experience within an investment setting.
  • Creative in approach to the appraisal of equity, debt and guarantee products including scenario and sensitivity analysis.
  • Experience of transactions within key areas of the Bank’s focus which may include infrastructure, energy, energy transition, transport, digital assets and/or critical minerals.
  • Advanced working knowledge of accounting and tax rules to facilitate accurate modelling of infrastructure and energy investments which may include integrated financial statements and valuation calculations in line with GAAP.
  • Good working knowledge of equity, debt and guarantee financial instruments and their key terms.
