The Head of Operations & Data has overall responsibility for the operations of the Bank, ensuring that all processes across the Bank (both within the Ops function and across the organisation) are clearly articulated and for consolidating operational activities into one ‘shared services’ team.
The individual will ensure that the maximum benefit can be obtained from data by working closely with the business, functions and IT to establish a data framework that allows data to be effectively leveraged and utilised across the organisation with leading data analytics capabilities.

Core responsibilities
  • Develop and implement an operational strategy that provides a sufficient and lean structure to support the operations of the Bank considering business contingency and continuity requirements, control infrastructure and segregation of duties on a ‘maker-checker’ basis
  • Working closely with the Operational Risk team, establish a clear end-to-end view of all procedures and processes of the organisation, ensuring these are documented and maintained in an appropriate database which is embedded into the operational control activities of UKIB and an effective operational control environment is established
  • Ensure that processes and procedures are fully aligned with all relevant functional manuals and frameworks of HM Government and with best practice
  • Overseeing the implementation of ‘front to back’ operations systems and processes for the bank in conjunction with businesses and functions and with the Operational Risk team
  • Establish and oversee a ‘shared services’ operations team that supports the different functions of UKIB as required allowing back-up and contingency to be established with depth of knowledge and efficient processes
  • In conjunction with the business, functions and IT, implement a data framework for UKIB ensuring that data is well managed and organised across the organisation including single source, data quality, data ingestion and analytical capabilities. The effective utilisation of data needs to be a core competency embedded across the organisation
  • Establish a data analytics team capable of supporting the requirements for data analysis and management across the organisation with the intent of leveraging the data in a highly effective manner to support business and functional activities and management information requirements.
  • Ensure that GDPR is effectively managed throughout the organisation with first line responsibility for ensuring that appropriate data controls are in place
  • Identify and leverage market best practice across data and operations and continually improve and develop the organisational processes and capabilities
  • Effectively planning and managing the operations budget
  • Oversee the Executive Assistant team as required from a central perspective
Required behaviours, experience and technical skills:
  • An expert understanding of banking and payments end to end processes as well as supporting functional processes through an operational leadership role or enterprise responsibility for operations related to banking and payments
  • Strong experience leveraging data as either a Chief Data Officer or through experience obtained in data management from a business or operational role with significant data activities
  • A strong understanding of operational control environments obtained either through first- or second-line responsibilities
  • Experience in a scale-up environment in either the fintech or banking is preferred
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to solve complex problems while being able to deliver operational results.
  • The ability to work at pace, be flexible, and operate within a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
