The Opportunity

The Interim CFO will step into a visible leadership role, partnering closely with the executive team and finance organization to provide stability, direction, and experienced judgment while the company continues its search for a permanent CFO.

This leader will help guide the business through near-term priorities including capital raise activity, finance organization support, stronger operating discipline, and progress toward IPO and public-company readiness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide executive-level leadership across finance and accounting during an interim period

  • Assess the current environment, identify priorities, and recommend practical next steps

  • Partner with the executive team on key financial, operational, and strategic decisions

  • Support capital raise activity and help prepare materials, messaging, and finance leadership input as needed

  • Help advance IPO readiness and broader public-company preparedness

  • Strengthen financial discipline, cash stewardship, and control orientation across the organization

  • Work closely with a strong existing finance team, including senior finance leadership already in place

  • Contribute at both strategic and hands-on levels, balancing leadership with execution

  • Serve as a trusted voice with senior stakeholders, including board and investor audiences

  • Help create a smooth transition for the eventual permanent CFO

Ideal Background

Candidates should bring a blend of senior finance leadership experience and operating pragmatism. Strong consideration will be given to leaders with experience in many of the following areas:

  • CFO or senior finance leadership experience in privately held, growth-stage businesses

  • Capital raise / capital formation experience

  • IPO readiness or public-company readiness experience

  • Experience helping lead a company through a public listing or operating in a public-company environment

  • Board-facing and investor-facing experience

  • Background in capital-intensive, manufacturing, hardware, industrial technology, energy, climate tech, or related sectors

  • Experience supporting product commercialization, manufacturing ramp, or scale-up environments

  • Familiarity with investor-backed organizations, including private equity and other institutional ownership structures

The company has an established finance and accounting organization in place, including strong leadership within the team. This assignment is not about rebuilding from scratch. It is about adding experienced executive leadership, sharpening priorities, and helping the company navigate an important stage of growth and readiness.

Location

The role offers location flexibility, with an expectation of meaningful travel, particularly during the early phase of the engagement. Candidates should be comfortable spending time on-site to understand the business, operations, and leadership team. Relevant locations/facilities include: Boston, Berkeley, Pittsburgh area / West Virginia factory site.

Engagement Structure

This is initially an interim assignment, though the company is open to considering candidates who may also have interest in a longer-term opportunity if there is strong mutual fit.
